Photos of roadside warbirds and museum collections are most welcome. Photos of aircraft as they are currently displayed are great, but photos of airframes in previous markings, with past owners or during a restoration are fantastic as well. You can help document the history of airframes with photos!

Photo Date: Circa 1931
Credit: Theodore E Gildred Collection / San Diego Air and Space Museum Archive via Terry Fletcher
Date Uploaded: 24 February 2016
Airframe: Ryan B-5 Brougham, c/r NC731M
Notes: For his flight from San Diego to Ecuador, Theodore Gildred Sr. purchased the Brougham just prior to his history-making flight. He selected flight instructor Dean Farran as his co-pilot, and left San Diego at dawn, March 13, 1931. In the next 18 days of his goodwill flight, Gildred set down 13 times, completing the trip through Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Ecuador. He arrived at his final destination in Ecuador at 10:35 a.m. on March 31, 1931, before a welcoming crowd of 15,000 people. The Ecuadorian government awarded him its gold Medal of Honor and feted Gildred and Farran at a state reception. Following that flight, Gildred sold his Brougham to the government of Ecuador, where it was used as the countryaCOs first air mail plane.
