Photos of roadside warbirds and museum collections are most welcome. Photos of aircraft as they are currently displayed are great, but photos of airframes in previous markings, with past owners or during a restoration are fantastic as well. You can help document the history of airframes with photos!

Photo Date: In 1948
Credit: Dustin W. Carter Collection via Timothy Weinschenker
Date Uploaded: 3 November 2019
Airframe: North American P-51C-5-NT Mustang, s/n 42-103757 USAAF, c/n 103-26311, c/r N4845N
Notes: It was a long time before it was more widely known that the Beguine was suppose to be racing at Cleveland in 1948. Paul Penny Penrose was suppose to be the pilot. It was decided to let another pilot ferry it to Cleveland. The airplane ran out fuel and was bellied in a farmers field. Of course it did not make it to Cleveland and Paul Penrose was dismissed as the pilot. Dusty Carter gave me a copy of this photo for helping print photos for the Mustang book for him just before he passed away. You can easily identify it as 1948 by the cuffless Hamilton Standard prop and painted spinner.

Photo Date: In 1948
Credit: Charles N. Trask via Timothy Weinschenker
Date Uploaded: 3 November 2019
Airframe: North American P-51D-20-NA Mustang, s/n 44-63576 USAAF, c/n 122-31302, c/r N51DH
Notes: Charles Trask was one of the many non-professional photographers at Cleveland in the 1940s. In 1948 he took a roll or two of color slides of some of the race planes and air show participants. He was very generous in sharing these photos and would make a set of duplicate slides if asked. In the 1980s I obtained a set of these. Scanning technology was not available then but I made a series of Cibachrome prints from these slides. I no longer have the slides as they are with a friend for another project but I do have the prints I made. I will try to scan these later at a higher resolution but these photos of Jay Dee are very nice and provide color documentation of racing in this era.
