Photo Date: On 2 July 1980 Credit: Simon Wallwork Date Uploaded: 14 February 2022 Airframe: de Havilland Comet 2, s/n XK655 RAF, c/n 6023, c/r G-AMXA Notes: This Comet R.2 was the sneaky-beaky version operated by 51 Squadron at Wyton. XK655 was ex G-AMXA and is seen at Strathallan, where it was eventually broken up. The nose survives at a museum in Sharjah. It flew in here, to this small grass strip, and there was memorable footage on TV of it doing so, during which one of the MLG collapsed. The RAF fixed it, but of course it never flew again.
