Constructed as a TF-1.

Converted to a XTF-1W.
Was to be delivered as a standard TF-1 (C-1A) Trader, but it was pulled off the Grumman production line and used as an aerodynamic prototype for the WF-2 Tracer airborne early warning aircraft. It was fitted with a twin tail and an aluminium radome, but not with any electronics.

Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Navy with BuNo 136792.

11 September 1969

Transferred to Overhaul and Repair, NAS Quonset Point, RI.

From September 1969 to April 1970

Converted to a C-1A.
Twin tail was left remaining on the aircraft, otherwise standard C-1A.

From 8 April 1970 to 3 April 1974

Transferred to NAS Quonset Point, RI.
Assigned for utility work.

3 April 1974

Assigned to other east coast Naval Air Stations.

From Unknown to 3 February 1983

Transferred to Naval Engineering Station, NAS Lakehurst, NJ.

3 February 1983

Struck off Strength/Charge from the United States Navy.
