    Constructed as a VC-10-1106 by British Aircraft Corporation.

    21 August 1966

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the Royal Air Force with s/n XR809 and operated with these markings: Hugh Malcolm VC.

    Transferred to 10 Squadron, Brize Norton.

    30 July 1969

    To Rolls Royce, Moor Lane, Derby with new c/r G-AXLR.

    From August 1969 to 1975

    Leased from the RAF to Rolls Royce for testing thir new RB211 engine between 1969 and 1975. After completion of the trials the airframe was found to be distorted, possibly following an uncommanded in-flight engagement of the thrust reverser, and repairs deemed to expensive to authorise.

    20 July 1972

    To Rolls Royce, Filton, Bristol keeping c/r G-AXLR.

    September 1975

    Last flight.
    Flown to Kemble -for use as a ground trainer by the SAS.

    Notes: VC-10 C.1 formerly XR 809 acted as the Rolls-Royce RB.211 testbed and was seen stored at Kemble in the Summer of 1976 awaiting final disposal.
